The sawstop does work and is a brilliant idea. The designer though has basically held the industry hostage trying to get the feds/osha/insurance companies to mandate his technology on all saws, with him holding the rights to it of course. There was recently an article wherein he testified against Ryobi after someone (a flooring installer) was hurt on a portable jobsite saw and of course awarded millions. Ryobi unfortunately had had some dialog with sawstop but never struck a deal, but his point was had it been equipped with a sawstop device the person would have suffered only minor injuries. They basically where at fault for not reaching an agreement to buy his technology. It stated clearly the operator was not using the saw in a safe manor. Very clearly because no other manufacturer has licensed the rights to use the technology, sawstop must be driving a hard bargain or banking on the "powers to be" making it mandatory on all table saws.
