Isn't this the nature of the American system of capitalism? Like drug companies coming up with a vaccine of questionable effectiveness for people who need it under only rare circumstances which they can control, making it incredibly expensive and requiring multiple doses, and then trying to get the government to mandate its use?

As to the saw- technology aside- in Fine Woodworking tests the saw itself does not perform as well as the Unisaw or Powermatic, and it was priced higher the last time I looked. Anyone dropping that kind of cabbage on a table saw is not an amateur and knows how to safely use a saw, so it had better have a qualitative performance difference or those customers won't buy. The person who most needs the technology is not going to shell out Unisaw bucks, they're going to buy a $200 saw from a box store.

If you want safety you should buy and use a stock feeder. It will not only protect your fingers from the blade, it will protect you from kickback, which is probably a more dangerous and frequent issue than fingers contacting the blade.

Maybe all tablesaw users should be required to buy a license. Then, like the kayaking tragedy in Maine, not only would kayaking accidents be banished, severed digits and kickback would be eliminated.
