In Response To: Shop: Durable strongback (Kudzu)
: Looking to build a new strongback that will be used over and over.
: I know there are LOTS of ways to do this. But I want to build a
: long strongback that doesn't weight so much that I can't put it
: up on the rack to store by myself. My thought is to built a
: plywood box beam, notch the joints and glue and screw it
: together. Then I can just add a board to top to be my
: sacrificial piece.
The eye-shaped sprung (ala Bjorn Thomasson) one is simple to make, solid and very lightweight. Mine is over 19 feet long by 20 inches wide. I hang it from the ceiling of the shop single-handed.
