I would vote Go Ahead, but with a different build suggestion. I think SOF is a brilliant way of prototyping design ideas. Sure, you are limiting yourself to harder chines, but you can make so many changes off the fly based off of instinct and your eye. Especially if you build S&G, you won't have that flexibility at all. Added to the flexibility, the prototype (which could be awful) will only cost you $300-$400, and will be on the water faster. AND, if you immediately determine something you wanna change, you can take the skin off and modify, without wasting all of the previous work.

Just my thoughts. I designed my own boat last year and I am still in the process of finishing it... And with a SOF you can even skip the computer and work off simple drawings if you'd like~
