Thanks! Seats/backrests were a sticking point for me. I thought about it long and hard, and came up with several solutions - most of which would have added weight and complexity, as well as would have raised the paddler's COG. And, then, I tried sitting in her with my folding "Crazy Creek" camp chair. And, that was that. Super simple, very comfy, full back support, lightweight, and you can buy similar name brand ones for about $10 at Campmor. Saved me some time building seats, too.
Tom, thanks again. I plan to paddle L. Dillon soon, and I'll likely check out those other spots, too. It IS frustrating to paddle around here - nary a starfish, crab, seal, Orca, otter or dolphin to be seen. Kind of boring, really . . . err, except for that one day at the Res, when I was teaching my friend Ingrid to roll. A full dozen athletic young ladies walked down to the shore, stripped off to the skin, and spent the next hour cavorting around us. Poor Ingrid almost drowned a couple of times when I got distracted.
On a different note, yesterday one of the Chuckanut admirers was very anxious to tell me about this cool website he'd found that gave instructions for building folding kayaks . . . ! I told him to build the Sonnet.
