I got just enough left from my paddle making experiment so I might use that. I actually already have a foam seat carved and can use that as a cast, however I'm not convinced the shape is as good as it can be.

Got many ideas now, will pick one and try it soon.

: Relatively cheap way, though it's messy, would be to carve a seat
: blank from insulation foam. Course sandpaper, like 36 grit, will
: cut it just fine then you can sit on it to test the shape. Much
: like making a minicell seat but the foam is much cheaper.
: Downside is the foam dust gets everywhere and sticks to you and
: everything else. Once carved epoxy won't hurt it so it would
: make a decent molding surface.

: You'd have to use care to not point load this foam as it has poor
: crush strength, but sitting on it carfully spreads out the load
: so it won't be damaged. Shouldn't cost more than maybe $10.
