I don't know much about engineering data, all I know is what I see....

When starting with 3/16" thick strips, it's critical that you KEEP 'em 3/16" thick, and that means super-extra-accurate strip work. Even then, you're very likely to end up with 1/8" after sanding inside and out. When using slightly thicker strips the process becomes a whole lot more forgiving, and the weight penalty is negligible. My goal is to end up with a 3/16" thick core.

But, as always, your mileage may vary.
