Re: Skin-on-Frame: Water-based poly over oil-based
In Response To: Skin-on-Frame: Water-based poly over oil-based paint? (Mike Hanks)
: Sadie's kayak skin was sealed and decorated with oil-based paint,
: and I want to put a clear protective layer over that. Can I use
: water-based polyurethane, or should I stick with oil-based? The
: paint is dry now and very hard. I'd like it to remain clear, and
: I need it to dry quickly. I also have some older corey goop
: (two-part urethane).
I'd want to make a test panel first.
Personally I like to keep the coatings fairly thin, I'd expect that they'd be prone to cracking if they were thicker.
