Yes, I like to keep them thin too. I am hoping that after 4 coats, sanding between each, I might get some smoothness, but each coat causes the fibers to swell, raising more bumps. It is those bumps that appear so hard, but the finish does seem much tougher than the latex paint on my son's kayak. Fortunately the almond color of the oil paint is almost identical to the color of the canvas.

No time for a test panel now, the kayaks are needed starting Friday at SSTIKS. www.qajaqpnw.org
