While making your grab handles pretty, it's important that you don't compromise the function. Remember that they're not just used for carrying the boat, but may be called upon to help you control it after a surf landing or during a rough-water rescue, where boats often get rolled by the waves. To do that safely, the handle must be able to twist, which means it should be on cord that extends beyond the bow and stern. This is typical on Brit' boats. Luggage-style handles may be nice for carrying on land, but they can be hazardous on the water. I've heard accounts of paddlers breaking and/or dislocating fingers when trying to use luggage-style handles in rough conditions, when their boats rolled and trapped their hands between the handle and the deck. Just something to think about.
