From what I've read, there's very little evidence that BPA is dangerous when used in drink containers either, but it created a public panic and it was removed from such products. While that may be a good thing regardless, it looks pretty unlikely that it was ever a real problem. It's like a lot of other minuscule risks that get a bunch of media publicity, the ignorant public goes nuts over it, but are oblivious to the everyday dangers that are several orders of magnitude higher, right in front of their faces. They freak out over something like BPA in bottles, completely ignoring the fact that the crap that comes in those bottles (soda, energy drinks, etc.) poses much more danger to their kids' health than BPA in the plastic ever would.

The bottom line is that human beings are very poor at assessing risks in their lives.
