I like squeegeing because I don't need rollers, it's fast, easy and I don't get dry glass which is the main complaint on glassing on this board.
I use a squeegee that's soft plastic with a very thin edge that you can get at automotive supply houses etc. Basically I pour some on the upside down hull and pull it around on the bottom. Then I do the sides by just pulling some down and sideways along the sides. Sometimes I press the squeegee against the side and pour a tiny bit on the squeege end and pull upward or sideways.
I remember reading books like Canoecraft and Kayak Craft by Bear Mountain Boat. He applies epoxy with a paint brush and lets it soak in and later he squeegees off any excess. That final squeegeeing forces the glass in close contact with the wood so it's not floating and takes excess epoxy off. He was the first to describe this and when I did it, it just seemed natural to apply the epoxy like that from the start and avoid the brush. I don't like the brush because it can pull the cloth.
I think the roller is perfect if it works for you and you like it etc. Just don't be stingy rolling it out because you should squeegee later anyhow. There's nothing more frustrating to find that the wood later absorbed more than you thought and you get the dry glass spot.
