I'd suggest some safety improvements.

General safety you never want to trap a cut-off, and your jig has the cutoff pushed against the fence. It's true that as long as you don't cross the centerline of the jig you should be fine, but on my saw if I'm cutting a 8:1 scarf I have to cross the centerline even with a 1/4" strip so the cutoff is being acted on by the part of the saw blade pushing up away from the table. That's what causes kickback. Also, whenever possible you want to stand to the opposite side of the cutoff, so if the blade tosses it you won't get hit. On this jig you would have to cross the saw path and have a hand on either side of the blade instead of staying on the left side, and be positioned in the path of the cutoff.

If it were me, I'd just push the jig all the way through the saw and cut it in half, and just use the piece on the left side. In that version, the cutoff would fall onto the table from the height of your platform. I use a jig like Jeff's, but I'm even lower tech and use spring clamps or no clamps, depending on the length of the stock.
