: For a tablesaw and the cutting sleds, I'd make it so the sled
: passed on both sides of the blade and have a wood clamp to hold
: the end piece before and after the cut. An L shaped clamp that
: holds the piece without putting a bend on the strip being cut.
: The clamp holds the end steady for cutting and prevents the end
: cut from flying afterwards.

: If I use power tools for a scarfing cut, I use a circular saw
: mounted on a wheeled chassis that runs on a pair of rails. The
: peice is clamped to the wooden work base and cut. The end piece
: is always on the other side of the saw blade and even unclamped,
: barely moves after the cut. Works well for ripping as well and
: the only limit on cut length is the space between the walls. As
: long as the rails are long enough.

Hi Mike,

Actually the only thing I use it for is for cutting stringers for splices for the SOF's. I butt join my strips on strip boats.

It's nice to use power tools to cut consistant scarfs, not in any way required though. Many fairly easy ways to cut them by hand. I most certainly would't think about cutting scarfs on a table saw for strips.

Btw, even with the tails clamped they can wedge themselves next to the blade only takes a little tilt to do that.
