Thanks for posting this. One of the aspects of sea kayaking I find really interesting is safety. I don't remember where I got this statistic (or even if it is accurate) is "Kayaks 1 percent of the boats, 15 percent of the fatalities."

It's why life guards sit so high up pools, so they can watch for swimmers quietly drowning on the bottom of the pool.
This applies less specifically to kayaking than to general water safety. Especially --don't ever practice holding your breath underwater if you're alone (I did this for years as a kid....)
Might be relevant for rolling practice.

One final shaggy dog story. Family party, cousins house, in ground pool, everyone was pool side. I was sitting with a plate of food, bored. I noticed a 2 year old playing around near the pool. She was being watched by her grandma, who didn't seem very alert. So I said, I'll keep an eye on this baby. Within a two minutes, baby steps behind a planter box, band member on the other side of the pool started shouting, baby was in the pool.
We can know everything that can happen, be ready for it and still miss it.
