: African, Cuban will epoxy with no problem. Mahogany is a dream
: to work with but some South American varieties are tricky to pla
: e without tear-out. If you get tear-out then use a sander.
: African mahogany of good quality will plane easily, cut easily,
: and glue easily. I use it in wood surfboards. If you've seen any
: of my posts the reddish-brown wood is mahogany- either African
: or local Caribbean which is basically Cuban Mahogany
Thanks. BTW, that's aspen rather than poplar; I think I've read here before it's okay, as well.
On an unrelated note - I've been watching for a decent table saw for strip cutting; seems I'm not as good at it as some here! I'd used my bil's little 13 amp 'basic' for my first - and it worked remarkably well - but they 're-liberated it', so..... All the similar saws were going for $150 - not worth it - so I ordered a DeWalt dw745. I believe some here use that. Predictably, the 'cheap, basic' went on sale - literally 2 days later - for $65. It's not much of a saw, but for strips, it was fine. The DeWalt was $300, but from reviews, much
better saw. Maybe it's a sign....
