Remember him? The kayak designing Englishman from the 1960s.
He designed what the Brits call a "Canadian canoe" called "Teal". An SOF canoe 16' x 31", 57 pounds.
It's somewhat like a heavy Geodesic. Mostly cold bent ribs and one or more plywood frames. Clark Craft has the plans.

There are plenty of Blandsford kayaks around but I've never encountered stories of anyone building a Teal. If the Teal is as sturdy as Blandsford's other designs it should work well.
