: Hi Dave,
: If you're not used to using epoxy figure the weight of the glass
: times two for weight. That's a gross excess of resin and it's
: also about average too for wet layup. The 50 yard roll is more
: than enough. It wets out completely clear, hard to tell it's got
: glass on it. Downside is it's not a rugged layup as the glass is
: very light. Depends on how you use the boat. Doubling the
: football and the stems is a good idea. I'd only use a double
: layer in front of and behind the cockpit for rescues and
: entering and leaving the cockpit. If you'll carry alot of cargo
: might want a double layer around the hatches. Also not a bad
: idea to double the area directly under the seat and where your
: feet are when sitting in the boat, takes alot of abuse there.
: I've only used West brand epoxy so can't comment on the resin,
: but should be fine.

Thanks for the feedback Bill. I think that the sacrifice of a less rugged layup will suite me just fine as the boat will only ever see flat water lakes in the okanagan, and prob. only day trips. Really I was intersted in the wet out clearness and epoxy usage with this material. I am quite experianced with polyester but very little knowledge of epoxy.
For the time being my project is on hold, as I am getting married this weekend and then off on an Alaskan cruise, although we have booked a kayak "adventure" though the glaciers of alaska supposedly with bear and eagles fishing along with you paddling. Promises to be interesting.
Thanks Dave.
