: What's wildly expensive, and how do you quantify it?

1.5 gallons of DuPont 72200S ChromaPremier automotive urethane (enough for 2+ kayaks) was $250 for materials alone (base, reactor, reducer and flex agent). I was quoted over $800 for the same amount of a marine version. I'd call 2.5x the price wildly expensive. The other thing is my applicator had never used it before. He has used the 7220S before. I guess the marine version I was quoted has a higher viscosity and goes on in thicker coats. It doesn't polish as easily but it's more durable. It was tough to justify the added cost.
