Hi Jim,
There is a better way. I could try and describe the method of hot gluing the tape in place strapping the deck and hull together. But Jay Babina wrote an article describing the method here is a link.

This is the system I have used on I think 4 strip builds. This works so well you will never use the stick and nail method once you try the hot glue way. I hope you find this useful. Oh yea use 2 inch tape it's more than enough.
