Actually these are designed so they have a narrower top than bottom so they form a gap for the epoxy. You can install them prior to glassing. Just buy some of thos sticky dots they sell at office supply stores and stick them over them before you glass to keep the epoxy out of the recess and glass right over them. Then go back and cut out the dots and remove them.
