There are other consideration on what layup to use, namely, clarity of the layup, and the ease of application. I have done 4 oz and 6 oz. The 4 oz came out perfectly clear, and it conforms more easily to curves. Your really don't see the glass. The 6 oz. shows some weave, and is a bit stiffer.

The only issue I have had with the 4 oz. is it dents more easily on the rear deck, when I scramble up on deck with a paddle, doing cowboy rescues. The paddle shaft has put some impressions into the deck behind the cockpit.
