Malcolm, I've followed this thread with a lot of interest. I need to put safety lines and bungees on my strip baidarka, which is all done and has entirely bare decks; it also has bulkhead hatches and thus no access to the bow and stern via deck hatches. I can probably reach OK just forward and aft of the bulkheads but would have to fish the fore and aft lash points with fishing line or something like that. The illustration shows what I have in mind. The idea includes a 2" reinforcing disc of okoume ply; seemed like a good idea. Before I order some fittings and give this a shot, I thought I'd ask your opinion. Also, I note you're recommending the plastic bars. Are they strong enough for the safety lines? Thanks a lot!
