Good rule in any kayak for footwear, no laces, not ever.

Btw, with a small ocean cockpit gravity doesn't do alot when you're upside down, you just pop the skirt and hang there. As mentioned by someone else, have to take the kayak off like a pair of pants, it's easy but you don't just fall out.
