Strip: Aspen for strips

Anybody ever use Aspen for strips. I found the boards at Lowes. They don't seem too heavy and are very white with no visible grain.
I would like to use this wood for staining with analine dye. The consistent color is what I like. Any thoughts on Aspen, pro or con?
