Actually if you are building a Yost coaming up out of plywood you can make the template as soon as the top lip part of the coaming is cut out. Just lay it on some paper and draw the outline of the outer edge of the lip. Then mark the center line. At the center line mark mark the inside edge of the rear section of the lip. That is just so you can have a reference point to measure from. Then I will make my back rest position about 1.5 to 2 inches in from that reference point.
This is a simple way to make the template and get the skirt on the way while you finish the rest of the kayak.
