You are right about changing camera technology...Linda paid $350 for a point and shoot with a zoom lens built in and it takes incredible shots. I am not so sure a point-and-shoot will ever replace a 600mm lens though...not that I own one, but that little point and shoot sure is handy and easier to use than my SLR. Still, I will keep using my SLR, I am a little stubborn about change. I suppose if I lose it in the river I might think differently but for now...I'm all about SLR. As far as digital zoom goes, it sucks big time. Optical zoom takes the best images whereas digital zoom is a waste of time
