I had a Valley Rapier 18 in my shop about 6 weeks ago for a simple cosmetic repair. The owner told me the boat weighed 36 pounds, and he was dissapointed because it limited his entry into races do to the light weight. I didn't believe him so after he left we weighed the boat and sure enough 35.5 pounds. This boat was carbon kevlar but straight fiberglass would only add 5 pounds or so. Quite impressive actually.

Anyway Bill mentioned that the boat is probably strong enough and I would agree. I say best would be to load it up, and go for a trip. Pack a well thought out fiberglass repair kit for piece of mind, and in a perfect world you won't need it, the boat stays light, and you save yourself a tonne of work.
