: and i think it's better to prevent than to cure on the spot so
: i'd like to add a football shaped piece of 8oz poly on the
: bottom. Is there a tape out there that actually sticks to
: polyester fabric ? The idea is to put on the tape where i want
: to cut with scissors so the fabric doesn't ravel (i use the same
: technique to cut fiberglass cleanly, tape comes of when the
: glass saturates).

: The other option is to use pinking shears, but it still ravels a
: bit but a lot less though.

: I want to work directly on the kayak, so using a soldering iron is
: no option, and it leaves a ridge. Put on the fabric, varnish so
: it stays put and cut to shape.
If you want something tuff and will stay, go to a sail loft and get self adhesive 3 oz. material they use for sail #s. We used a double stick 3 M tape for seaming that is very strong grip also sold for sailmakers.
