I built both the Cirrus and the Cirrus LT, and think someone 173 pounds would be happier in the regular Cirrus. The LT tracks too straight with that much weight - it doesn't carve turns well being lower in the water. I'm about 155 pounds and usually travel with about 10 pounds of gear and prefer the more playful Cirrus.
