: someone my size?

For someone under 200 pounds, I recommend the Expedition Sport over the larger Cape Ann Expedition. The target weight range for the Sport is 140-200, vs. the larger Expedition at 170-260 pounds. I've had the Sport filled with camping gear and it performed well with a total load of over 220 pounds. The overall length of the Sport is 16'9", but it has a relatively long waterline length at over 15'.

The Sport's hull design is great. It has a rounded entry for paddling efficiency, and flattens out near the cockpit for stability. The pinched keel gives it good directional stability but it responds well to sweep strokes and bow rudder strokes for turning. A very stable feel to it and plenty of storage capacity. It doesn't need a rudder or skeg.

The Sport is my favorite kayak for long trips.
