Probably a case of the solution being worse than the problem. I figure that a little gluey stuff stuck to my hands will wear off in a day or so, where high power solvents will only help any nastiness penetrate my skin. If the stuff has not dried, I'll scrub as much off as I can and let the residue dry, once it dries it will wear off on its own or it will give me something more interesting to do than watch TV as I pick at it.

As a general rule, using solvents to clean your skin is probably not a good idea. Soap and friction are a healthier bet.
