Go to the flag page and there is a description of a good mounting system. When Max Grant and his daughter Melz circumnavigated the South Island of New Zealand recently the fishing boat skippers remarked on the visibility of their flags, their kayaks being hidden by the swells at sea.

A kayaker in Auckland NZ (two, three years ago?) was hit by a power boat driven by THE Yacht Club rep. Plastic hi-vis kayak, hi-vis clothing, waving his hi-vis paddle as high as possible. The power boat nearly cut the kayak in half. The recommendation - mount a flag which of course would be lower and have less visible area - but that's what officials think(?) - or they don't actually "think" ... So Auckland Regional Council (ARC) tried to introduce compulsory flags and hi-vis clothing and hi-vis kayaks. Fortunately this was reduced to "recommended".

It helps but an inattentive skipper won't see anything, ever.

We have suggested crossbows with bolts (that's an arrow) trailing nylon ribbon. Have 3 and make the last one used have a high explosive head...
