Actually, nothing doesn't gets bleached out by the sun. the thicker the coating (like oil paint) last longer. Cedar shakes on houses along the shore get killed by the sun and turn grey and there's no stain or coating that will keep that from happening.

Think of it this way. The most important thing is to have it look great for it's debut and collect all the accolades you can at that time. Then use it and enjoy paddling and fix it as it get used and bruised or faded. My boats all just get darker over time due to the build-up of varnish which gets darker and darker.
