I'm building my coaming out of plywood rings + a plywood lip. I've had an idea for a while that I'd like to let family + friends put painted finger prints on the top of the coaming. I previously just used cheap kid's finger-paint for some hand-prints on my daughter's kayak. Thing is, I have no idea how this paint would hold up with being exposed. The finger-paint was mostly to keep her busy + do something fun for the kayak (but was later covered - it was done on the stems).
My thought is that I'd:
- Use (xyz) paint to have people do their thumb print on the coaming
- Once I've collected them all, coat it with epoxy for longevity
- Coat it with (abc) for UV protection
I just don't know what xyz paint to use - I want something that'll stay semi-color fast but, more importantly, has easy cleanup since people are going to be finger-painting.
And, I don't know what to use for abc UV protection. I've got a small can of minwax polyurethane that I used on the plywood of the previous build. (If that's just for UV protection, I think I'm only going to use it on the sun-exposed areas of this new boat.)
Anyway, thoughts, opinions and witty commentary are very welcome.
