Athletes (not me) used to use this stuff DMSO for aches. I think it was basically a solvent. The guys I know who used it said they could wipe it on their arm and within 2-3 seconds taste it in their mouths.
Solvents dissolve, in one's body they dissolve myellin, which is basically the insulation in neurons. When we learn things, like a paddle stroke, Eskimo rolling, neurons form or are reassigned. The more we practice that the thicker the myellin, more insulation means a stronger signal can be sent.
Solvents dissolve myellin. Basically what we struggle to learn, improve by practice can be erased with solvents. This is why teenagers huffing is about the stupidest thing they can do.
