: To properly torture ply one has to leave the USA. For a proper job
: I would recommend removing the entire project to Guantanamo Bay.
: An extra point that was raised in the comments above was that of
: the uncertainty of exact replication of design parameters....
: I found that to be part of the charm of these boats. They are so
: cheap and quick to build that one can afford to experiment with
: 3mm or 4mm ply and altering the lines without risking much time
: or money. No two boats will come out exactly the same and each
: has its own personality.
: Generally 4mm ply will result in a flatter boat with a more
: parabolic hull section (round with flaring sides) and 3mm ply
: will result in a more semicircular section. The 4mm seems to
: produce a boat with more general stability and throw about
: maneuverability. The 3mm boats may be marginally faster.
: The blue boat in the picture is 31 years old and still in use

In my very limited experience trying this trick, it seems that almost every piece of plywood reacts a little differently than the next one you try. Kind of fun though. Probably a bit pricy now days as you want at minimum marine grade plywood as any voids in the ply will mean the sheet will almost explode when it's bent. I've tried this with exterior grade ply and it's at minimum exciting :)
