Just finished a Petrel, but for fine-tuning the cockpit outfitting.
Built it mostly of western red cedar, some very dark boards, some light. The sheer strip is of Alaskan cedar, the coaming and stems of poplar. Tinted the hull with Trans-tint blue, which took on an aquamarine/turquoise hue under the amber of epoxy and varnish... my artist friends tell me the color is called phlatho (after a blue green fungal decay on downed wood found in forests near here). Looks beautiful on the water and paddles great!
Plan to take it out tomorrow for sea trials in the remnants of Earl.
