Just got back from my usual haunts, King's Harbor, Redondo Beach, CA (Los Angeles).
The Santa Monica Bay is full of Blue Whales.
At the end of my morning paddle I spoke with three marine biologists who chased me down in their Zodiac--they were just as ecstatic as I was (still am). Jose and Christine, the marine biologists said they also saw a Minke whale.
No more than two miles off shore, feeding on krill.
Dozens of the the largest animal on the planet. I shot up my whole memory on my FlipHD.
If you've got a kayak and live near Los Angeles--get in the water! There were Blues spouting on all sides of me, all morning. Pods of 3-4 whales moving in circles less than half a mile across, frequently surfacing. I would be shooting video of two bus sized whales blowing multiple times while more whales were behind me blowing, off to one side or the other.
I just trimmed a piece of video and will post it ASAP to my Flickr site. It's a clip of two Blue Whales, taking a couple of blows and then double flukes in the air.

More whales in one morning than could fit into a whole Whale Week on TV.
