: Kayaker's use toggles as handles but that's not what they are for,
: they are to hold onto be a kayaker in the water to control and
: rescue the boat. Handles are pretty much worthless for a swimmer
: in the water.

: I capture the toggles with a loop of bungie running back to the
: deck rigging, easy to remove the toggle from the bungie loop in
: a rescue otherwise it's secured snug to the deck.

I recently learned the value of toggles for rescues. Until a few weeks ago I thought they were for carrying the kayak and pulling it onto the beach. Turns out they are actually for keeping it from getting trashed in waves when you wet exit in surf! :)
