True enough, although one of the big races in this country is in Chicago. I wasn't advocating their universal desirability or availability, just responding to Malcolm's opinion that they were only suited for flatwater.

But - they can be a lot of fun and a very good workout on relatively flat water. My local workout venue is a reservoir with about 5 miles of fetch. Given a good afternoon wind I have had some decent surfing in the last two miles of that short 'lake'. Ya gets yer yeehaws where ya can find 'em.
