The real question is what other options do you have? I agree if you have circular saw that would be better. I think you can do it with a skill saw but it's not going to be simple. That is a big cut for a skill saw. But if that is all you have, practice on some scrap till your sure you can, if you can. Too many people jump on their good stock for the first attempt and ruin it.

Another option is a good handsaw. They are not overly expensive and will do an excellent job. But again, practice! I love hand tools but I am not good with that type of cut with a hand saw.
