You could use it, but I don't think you would be very happy with the results. It will be very heavy and because of its flexibility water pressure will push it in between the the stringers, which in turn will increase surface area, which in turn will increase drag. Epdm roofing comes in 100'x10' rolls, probably the same for Pondgard which is essentially the same stuff. Very expensive stuff! The common materials used, nylon and polyester are really pretty easy to work with, and are proven to work and hold up well.
