The difference is only about 1/64th of an inch - about a pencil point width.
Cross sections at 2,4, under the front of the coaming, back of the coaming & split the remainder with the last two. I used six. I'd use more with 1/2" ply if I did it again. 10 or 12 should be about as strong as a ribbed version, I would think.
