There's a trick to using epoxy to glue on hardwood tips, first you need a relatively rough surface sanded with 80 grit is fine, then you need to pre-coat the cedar or it'll suck the epoxy out of the joint, then you need only very slight clamping pressure, just enough to hold the tip in place. Epoxy does much better if there is a relatively thick glue line, specially for high loaded parts, like paddle tips.
