Hey Graeme,
I made the exact same mistake five years ago,
and I've been paddling my mistake for five years--75 pound Great Auk. On the water--it seems OK, carrying and lifting it on my car--Total drag, even dangerous.
Whatever it takes with the heat gun, it'll be worth it. I wished I'd done it.
