This happened yesterday and shows what can happen.

A truck driver was impaled when a canoe came loose from a passing trailer and smashed through his cab windscreen "like a spear".
Emergency workers had to saw through the fibreglass canoe to free the Car Haulaways driver. He was flown to hospital with part of it still protruding from his groin.
The canoe came loose from the northbound vehicle's trailer, smashing through the windscreen of the southbound car transporter. The truck veered left, careered over the main trunk line and into a paddock, partly blocking the railway line.

A colleague said the vehicle the canoe came loose from continued on after the accident, its driver unaware until police pulled him over in Foxton.
