If you already have the steamer you might try the walnut and see. I've had surprises before using a steamer, some things that you thought would bend easily and wouldn't and others that you figured wouldn't steam at all and worked great. Sometimes steaming wood breaks all the rules. Only way to find out for sure is to try a sample.
