In Response To: Off Topic: How to get a kayak out of the basement (Bryan Hansel)
Anything over 10 feet long enters or exits my basement through one of those little windows. When I walled in the furnace, water heater, etc, I put the door in line with the window.
My big tools are in the basement. So counter tops, Strongbacks for canoes and kayaks, scarfed gunwales and chines, Rowboat keelson and keel, etc. All that stuff has gone through the window. When I built my SOF last month, I built the deck as far as I could in the basement, then pushed the framed deck out the window for ribs, skin, etc.
The key is to include the window in the up-front planning, and avoid the last minute oops.
