There are a lot of aluminum can alcohol stove designs out there, most of them much simpler to make than this one. They work great if you are just cooking for yourself and boiling enough water for a food pouch. They are light, the fuel weight becomes a disadvantage on a long trip or a group trip as it is not as efficient as other fuels. Just don't smash it on accident. I am a recent convert to the Jet Boil for the just boil water trips. I also picked up a stove from the Montreal area that is like an advanced sierra cup stove. It is a forced air fan stove that runs forever on a little battery and can burn everything from twigs to pine cones to seasoned bear scat. It is a little heavy for backpacking but great for kayak trips. If I can think of the name of the thing I will let you know.
